Synopsis

Something strange is happening at Pebble Creek.

Oliver Owl and his friends discover that pebbles seem to be moving on their own, and mysterious bubbles are rising from the water. Curious, Oliver gathers his friends and follows the clues upstream.

Soon, the young beavers look like the obvious suspects. They're moving sticks and building a small dam—but Oliver isn't convinced. One important clue doesn't fit. The mysterious bubbles appeared before the beavers could have caused them.

Instead of jumping to conclusions, Oliver and his friends keep watching, asking questions, and following the clues. Their search eventually leads them to a surprising discovery beneath the creek: an underground spring has begun feeding new water into Pebble Creek, changing the current and moving the pebbles.

The beavers weren't causing the mystery. They were simply responding to the changing water.

Along the way, Oliver learns an important lesson: sometimes the first answer isn't the right answer. When something doesn't quite fit, look closer.

The second adventure in Oliver Owl's Woodland Stories series.
