Synopsis

Who are you, really?

At twenty years old, Andrew J. DiMeo, Sr., PhD climbed onto a motorcycle for a 4,000-mile solo ride and discovered a lifelong love of teaching along the way. Three decades later, as a professor and mentor to medical innovators, he's still asking the same question that sent him down that highway: Who am I, and what is my purpose?

The Who in My Head collects 28 personal essays and 2 poems, written between December 2022 and December 2025, tracing DiMeo's search for identity through motorcycle trips, a stolen childhood bicycle, a career split between biomedical engineering and film sets, heartbreak, fatherhood, and the long process of unlearning who everyone else expected him to be.

DiMeo calls these pieces self-portraits, not autobiography: some sharply realistic, others impressionistic, all honest. Written with candor and humor, this collection is for anyone who has ever wondered whether the voice in their head is really their own.
