In "Old German Barns: Munich to Minnesota," we reflect on the significant influence that German immigrants had on shaping American life in the 19th century. Journeying from Munich to Minnesota, these pioneers brought their aspirations and the rich traditions of their homeland, particularly the art of timber barn building. Each barn constructed in Minnesota stands as a testament to their skill and resilience, serving not only as utilitarian spaces but also as vital centers of community life, embodying cooperation and hard work.
I have sketched each of these barns myself for pure joy and the love of the historical sentiment.
I wanted to display my art in a way that captures the hearts and minds of the Minnesota German and their craft and artistry. These are old abandoned barns that are rooted in German history and their feet remain in the Minnesotan landscape.
