Synopsis

Step into a world where American show business is sliced and diced in a Cuisinart. Coney Island Crackpots is the definitive collection of "Weird American Plays" from Dick D. Zigun, the self-proclaimed Permanently UnElected Mayor of Coney Island. Described as "aesthetically exploded," these works act as a kaleidoscope at a funhouse mirror, reflecting the dark, glittering heart of the American Dream through the lens of Brooklyn's most iconic playground. From the scathing 1905 critiques of Russian revolutionary Maxim Gorky to the "Dirty Dinner Theater Brechtian Cabaret" of a teenage Al Capone earning his scars at the Harvard Inn, Zigun's scripts capture the "people's culture" in all its garish, violent, and glamorous glory. Lavishly illustrated with striking performance photography by legendary photographer Norman Blake, this volume is both a historical artifact and a provocative theatrical experience
