Synopsis

What would you do if you saw or heard things no one else could explain? What if something attached itself to you? Who would you turn to? Would they believe you? Would you ever feel safe? And how do you make peace with a world that never quite makes sense?

That is the reality for Paul R. Ost.

This deeply personal memoir goes far beyond the proverbial bumps in the night. It follows a seemingly ordinary boy growing up in America's heartland, shadowed by unexplained paranormal phenomena. But the mystery doesn't fade with age;-it intensifies. As Ost comes of age and comes out during the height of the AIDS epidemic, two invisible struggles begin to overlap: the haunting he cannot escape, and a society that refuses to see him.

Told through journals, datebooks, personal memories, and corroborated stories from family and friends, 'When the Footsteps Stop' is a compelling, chilling account of a life shaped by both the unseen and the unspoken.

Join Ost and his nephew, Alexander J. Kirkland, as they seek answers to decades of unrelenting paranormal encounters.

They followed him through childhood, through crisis, and through every chapter of his life. But the question still lingers: what comes...

À propos des auteurs

Paul R. Ost, known to most friends and family as "Pauly," was born in Missouri but has called Colorado home for most of his life. A retired insurance professional, Paul has long-lived with a much less ordinary calling: since early childhood, he has experienced vivid and unexplained paranormal phenomena. Over the years, these experiences have shaped not only his understanding of the world beyond, but also his identity as a clairvoyant and medium. In his memoir, Pauly opens up for the first time about a lifetime of spirit encounters, intuitive visions, and the often-overlooked emotional journey of embracing both his psychic abilities and his identity as a gay man. With warmth, honesty, and a touch of humor, he invites readers into stories he's been telling his nephew-and only a trusted few-for decades. This is Pauly's debut book, written at his nephew's loving insistence, and it's a testament to the courage it takes to live-and speak-your truth, no matter how unconventional.

Alexander "Alex" J. Kirkland is a writer and author based in Kansas City. He was nominated for best Best Local Author in The Kansas City Pitch for his debut memoir, Wolves of Hemp Street. It has also been featured in Westword Magazine and Canvas Rebel.Since the release of Wolves, Alex has self-published two other memoirs: When Obstacles Limit Freedom, which tackles his struggle with panic attacks and the beginning of cervical vertigo; and The Cricket Chronicles, which tells humorous and clumsy experiences from his time working as a server at the popular and well-renowned burger establishment in Denver, The Cherry Cricket.
