Synopsis

Magic is outlawed!--exiled to the eternally calm pool of Bale's Victory by the king's dark religion.

And in the shadow of the king's castle, a candlemaker named Del works with his orphaned apprentice Will to provide light for the people cowering in tyranny. But when one of Del's confiscated candles is believed to contain Magic, Del and Will are forced to flee the city into a world that only grows larger and more curious for Will. Magic may be outlawed, but it is not dead, and everything he was taught is a lie.

Faced with the threat of pursuing guards, wicked monks, and a regime that wishes to oppress all power that is not the king's, Will and Del must step out of the shadows and resurrect a shrouded history to revive Magic--for something much darker stirs in the depths of Bale's Victory.

But Will must learn to trust, and Del must find his courage, as they discover that no victory is won alone and cowardice endangers all.
