Synopsis

Twelve-year-old Aubrey discovers she can talk to ghosts when she and her friends encounter a chilling mystery at the haunted Wilson House.

Aubrey wants to win the October writing contest at her middle school. The theme is “The Bizarre.” It is the perfect topic for October and Halloween: spooky tales, ghosts, and sinister secrets. Aubrey’s troublesome classmate Jupiter always gets first place in the writing contest. This month, Aubrey hopes to triumph. First prize is four tickets to Marine World, which has a scary roller coaster ride called the Electric Eel.

Aubrey’s ten-year-old brother gives her a great idea for the contest. He reminds her of the creepy doll their Uncle Dave encountered at the Wilson House. While walking around the House at midnight, Uncle Dave saw a large doll. She moved supernaturally to the window and opened her mouth to speak. Uncle Dave didn’t stick around to find out what the doll wanted. He ran screaming down the hill to his car.

Aubrey is also scared of ghosts. But, she is willing to visit the haunted Wilson House if it means writing the winning essay. Her friends Ellie, Jaden and Keylon volunteer to help Aubrey succeed.

Aubrey Helps a Ghost was named an Oklahoma Book Award Finalists. Fans of Mary Downing Hahn and Katherine Arden will enjoy Aubrey Helps a Ghost.
