Barbara Austin has devoted over thirty years to helping students gain admission to the nation's most selective colleges. For the past decade, she has specialized in working with Asian American students, developing innovative strategies to overcome the documented disadvantages they face in the admissions process. Her students have gained admission to every Ivy League university, Stanford, MIT, and dozens of other elite institutions.Barbara is a published author of five previous books, including Sad Nun at Synanon (Holt), Soulcatcher (Holt), Thin Within (Doubleday), and Two to Four from 9 to 5 (Harper). In her most recent book, 50 Great Answers to the Most-Asked Questions on College Admissions (College Quest Press), Barbara brings her storytelling expertise to the college application process. Published in 2025, it was the top-rated new college guide on Amazon. Barbara's academic foundation includes a BA in English from Loyola Marymount, an MA in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University, and doctoral studies at both the Graduate Theological Union's conjoint program with UC Berkeley and the University of Integrative Learning, where she completed her dissertation on Process Philosophy and Creativity.Barbara's teaching career spans tenure positions at San Francisco State University, Bowling Green State University, and Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, California.
