Marbled endpapers; tear to ffep. Antiquarian ink and pencil writing on early and late leaves including signatures of "Spencer S. Published without a table of contents so no list of the book's illustrations but present are frontispiece and portrait plates opposite page 99 (Nathanael Greene), opposite page 144 (Alexander Hamilton), and opposite page 315 (George Washington). The book was issued in several editions and imprints with OCLC citing the first being 1825 with later editions issued in 1829, 1830, 1831, and 1832. The title page of this 1831 Philadelphia imprint does not specify an author but Amos Blanchard, editor of the Cincinnati Journal, is credited as the author for two 1832 Cincinnati editions, one published by A. Salisbury and the other by Robinson and Fairbank. {Antiq-Shelf#3}.…
