Apophthegmatum opus é uma tradução da Apophthegmata Laconica de Plutarco por Erasmo de Roterdão. Trata-se de uma coleção de apotegmas (isto é: preceitos, sentenças ou aforismos). Esta obra é uma coleção de apotegmas da antiguidade clássica, recolhas e traduções de autores clássicos gregos e latinos: Plutarco, Diógenes, Xenofonte, Plínio, Tito Lívio, Suetónio, Macróbio, Herodoto, Seneca, Filóstrato, Valério Maximo, Eutrópio e outros. Encontrou esta obra grande sucesso e teve inúmeras edições em várias línguas. Muitos apotegmas repetiam idéias de Sócrates, Platão, e Alexandre, o Grande.
