Actionum Forensium Progymnasmata, Interpretatio Item, Complectens Universi Iuris Cognitionem: Quid Cuique vel Agendo Persequi, Vel Excipiendo Defendere Liceat, Ex Bono & Aequo. In Classes Septem Distincta, Ob Commodiorem Usum: Postremo Recognita & Locupletata. Cologne: Ex Officina Ioan. Gymnici, 1543. 1062, [8] pp. Folio (13" x 7-3/4"). Contemporary paneled calf over wooden boards, brass hasps and remnants of clasps to fore-edges, raised bands and blind fillets to spine, brass strips to corners (lacking from three inner corners and upper outside corner of rear board), front and rear pastedowns with a well-preserved single leaf manuscript of a Decretum Gratiani, early hand-lettered author name to fore-edge of text block. Worn, light rubbing and scuffing to boards, front board separated but secured by cords, moderate rubbing to extremities, spine and front joint abraded, portions lacking, others loose, calf chipped and loosening along joints, more severely along front joint, upper outside corner of rear board lacking, front free endpaper detached and lightly creased, illegible owner signature to its upper right corner, small hole to its upper left corner, rear free endpaper lacking. Light toning to interior, light browning to text in places, faint dampstaining in a few places, first signature (pp. 1-12) nearly detached, small tear to top margin of leaf E4 (pp. 55-56); ABOUT TWENTY SIX INCH CLEAN RAZOR INCISIONS to pages 299 to 330 (gradually diminishing from pages 313 to 330), very minor loss to a few letters of text, no loss to legibility, crack in text block between pp. 1054-1055, all leaves secure, inscribed signature "Greg[or] Tengnagel" and struck-through annotation to title page, brief early annotations to several leaves. $750. * First published in 1540 as Practica Actionum Forensium Absolutissima, this is a practical textbook on actions in civil law for students.
