Item description from seller

The entire book: The Annual Report of the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution showing the Operations, Expenditures, and Condition of the Institution for the year ending June 30, 1902. Among many other articles, it includes the important article by Wilbur Wright, with introduction by President Chanute on pages 133-148. 4 plates, with black and white photographs, and with a few charts and graphs in the text. This is the first article that the Wright brothers (credited just to Wilbur) published on their experiments in flight, two full years before their success at Kitty Hawk. It was first presented at a Sept 1901 conference and then printed in the Journal of the Western Society of Engineers in December 1901, and was revised for inclusion in the Smithsonian report, and Chanute introduction added. The full book is bound in green cloth with gold lettering. Binding good and tight. 687 pages. Includes aviation article on aeronautical progress by Baden-Powell, essay by H.G. Wells, essay on the concept of the Panama Canal, astronomy, paleontology, and much more. Illustrated with black and white plates. Previous owner's bookplate on inside front cover. Please email with questions or to request photos. If you see a photo beside this listing, please be aware that it is an ABE Stock Photo (whatever that is) and not a photo of this book (although sometimes they do get it right).
