A propos de cet article

A lovely retelling of Aesop"s Fables by Elizabeth Hardie, designed to introduce children to these classic moral tales, with charming colour plate illustrations and frontispiece. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with charming pictorial paper illustration affixed to the front board. This copy is undated, dated here using Jisc from a copy held at The British Library. This edition is notable for it's numerous in-text illustrations and colour plate illustrations, of which there are four, including a colour frontispiece of "The Dog in the Manger" from the picture by Walter Hunt, in the Tate Gallery London. Collated, complete. This early 20th-century edition presents a selection of Aesop"s fables retold in simplified, engaging language for young readers by Elizabeth Hardie. Fables include: "The Ass in the Lion's Skin", "The Fox and the Grapes", "The Kid and the Wolf", "The Fatal Marriage", "The Angler and the Little Fish", "The Man and his Goose", "The Wolf and the Lamb", "The Sheep-Biter", and many more.Aesop was a storyteller who is thought to have lived in ancient Greece around the 6th century BCE. He is best known for his collection of fables featuring anthropomorphic animals that illustrate moral lessons of honesty, wisdom and kindness. These fables have become enduring classics, continuing to be shared with generation after generation. In the publisher's original cloth binding with paper illustration affixation. Externally, very smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities resulting in very slight loss to cloth at head and tail of spine. Small spot of damp staining to illustration affixed o front board. Slight fading to extremities and spine. The odd very slight handling mark to boards. Slight offsetting to endpapers. Frontispiece hinge cracked, with binding materials exposed, but holding firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, if slightly age toned with the odd spot, heavier to fore edge and first and last few leaves. Very Good.…
