Synopsis
Join football writing's biggest names for a definitive journey through the most unlikely results in World Cup history. Discover the stories behind the tournament's biggest ever upsets ― how they were achieved, what really happened and what, if anything, really changed as a result? Featuring four previous Football Book of the Year winners at the Sports Book Awards, Against All Odds goes deep into the tales of these storied fixtures, with each author giving their version of events from their unique perspectives, whether it be player and manager testimonies or their long association with the teams or games themselves. Against All Odds adds rich colour and context to results that have echoed through the ages, celebrating those teams who dared to dream … and triumphed over footballing giants. It shines a light on the inherent relationship between football and socio-political climates, making it not only a comprehensive history but a must-have companion to the 2022 World Cup.
À propos de l?auteur
Adam Bushby and Rob MacDonald are two halves of the (almost-defunct, still hanging in there, just) football blog, Magic Spongers and between them, they have written for The Blizzard, When Saturday Comes, Football365 and Nutmeg among others. They co-edited, contributed to and compiled the anthology, Falling for Football (Ockley Books), as well as From the Jaws of Victory, an anthology about glorious defeat, featuring Paddy Barclay, Daniel Storey, Marcela Mora y Araujo, Daniel Gray, John Nicholson et al, under the auspices of their publishing house Halcyon Publishing. This and other football books can be found at www.halcyonpublishing.co.uk. Their often banal musings can be found on Twitter @magicspongers & more professionally, @HalcyonPublish1. After fleeing London independently, Adam currently lives in York, while Rob lives in Glasgow, if only to refute claims they are one and the same person.
