A United States and USSR collaborative effort to exchange agricultural publications, this book emerged from discussions in 1974 between the US and USSR Joint Committee on Cooperation in Agriculture. The text outlines the efforts of the two countries to set up a program of cooperation. The book includes the specifics of the agreement to exchange publications, along with an account of the Soviet agricultural machine-readable data bases, and an overview of the organization of the Central Scientific Agricultural Library. This report also discusses the visit of two members of a Soviet CRIS System Team to the United States to study the USDA Current Research Information System and MAILS CAIN on-line System. The text includes details about the Agroelektrin information retrieval system developed jointly by the Central Agricultural Library in Moscow and the All-Union Institute on the Electrification of Agriculture. The system was introduced in 1968 and was implemented on a Minsk-22 second-generation computer. The book also contains information about the Agroinform system, conceived in 1971 and incorporating the national information centers of Bulgaria, Hungary, the German Democratic Republic, Cuba, Mongolia, Poland, Romania, and Czechoslovakia.
