Its author was the Rev. Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832-1898) who adopted the pen-name of 'Lewis Carroll'. His genius was of two distinct orders - the one making for mastery of detail, clarity of thought, and correctness of judgement; while the other side of his strange personality manifested a deep love for children and an uncanny power of entering into their minds and imagination.
