The sixth edition of American National Security has been extensively rewritten to take into account the significant changes in national security policy in the past decade. Thorough revisions reflect a new strategic context and the challenges and opportunities faced by the United States in the early twenty-first century. Amos A. Jordan has served as Deputy Undersecretary of State and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs and as a professor at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point. He is president emeritus and served on the Board of Trustees of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C.

William J. Taylor, Jr., is a senior advisor in the International Security Program at CSIS and former director of National Security Studies at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point.

Michael J. Meese is a retired professor and former department head at the US Military Academy, West Point. He is the executive vice president of the American Armed Forces Mutual Aid Association.

Suzanne C. Nielsen is a professor of political science and the head of the Department of Social Sciences at the US Military Academy, West Point.
