Wayne Attoe and Donn Logan propose a specifically American theory of urban design. They see the characteristic features of American cities - the grid, loft buildings, distinctive styling - as opportunities for an American rather than a European-derived urbanism. Their paradigm of urban regeneration should interest practising architects and urban policymakers as well as students of urban design.
À propos de l?auteur: Wayne Attoe is Professor of Architecture at Louisiana State University, a practicing architect, and the author of Skylines: Understanding and Molding Urban Silhouettes and Architecture and the Critical Imagination. Donn Logan is a founding partner of ELS/Elbasani & Logan Architects and has completed many downtown plans and major architectural projects around the nation and abroad. From 1966 to 1986 he was a professor of architecture at the University of California at Berkeley.

Mit zahlr. Abb. Broschiert. Etat : Sehr gut. XV, 190 S. Einband leicht berieben. - Attoe and Logan propose a specifically American theory of urban design. Arguing that theories of urban design, especially theories about the remaking of cities, have been largely European in origin and thus of questionable value in American contexts, the authors see the characteristic features of American citiesthe grid, loft buildings, distinctive styling, and so forthas opportunities for a specifically American urbanism. From their own combined experience as urban architects and scholars, they have derived a theory of "catalytic architecture" suited to American circumstances, one that utilizes the proven ingredients of American practice.
