...given the culture and the way things were back in the swinging sixties it's not surprising that it was also a time of artistic excess, with muscle cars, drag racing and hot rods to the fore in the USA. The so-called 'show rod' covered here in this excellent book by Scotty Gosson, brings all those elements together, with unforgettable results. They were never intended for use on the road, some weren't intended to have any use for that matter, they were platforms for customizers of the day to draw huge crowds to their cars at shows, attract new business and generally try to outdo each other. People like Barris and Roth made their names in the show, TV and film car work while others better known as rodders, also made their marque such as Gene Winfield, Bob Reisner and Tom Daniel. -- --TKC magazine, November, 2013

...is 159 pages of candy-coated colors and mechanical madness, a zany circus of hot rods, flying saucers, monsters, outhouses and buxom models, shot all over with copious amounts of metalflake. In its presentation and writing, this book perfectly matches the philosophy of its subject. Deeply imaginative, highly detailed, meticulously crafted and FUN, it's full-colour pages are teaming with photographs depicting the cars, as well as the customizers concept sketches and period manufacturing details - including the boxes that contained the model kits frequently manufactured to replicate - and make money off of - many of the show rods. Along with the fantastic artwork, what author and car guy Scotty Gosson does particularly well here is put together some of the great customizers - like Candy Joe Bailon, George Barris, Tom Daniel, and Darryl Starbird - and get them to talk with one another, not only about their own designs but also about the origins and evolution of this wildly creative movement in automotive history. --Hemmings Muscle Magazine, December, 2013
