Description de la boutique

Professional Background Julie holds a Master of Science in Counseling and a Bachelor of Social Work from Indiana University. She began her career as a middle school counselor in Jefferson County, Colorado, where she was a first responder during the 1999 Columbine High School shooting—an experience that profoundly shaped her commitment to trauma-informed care and violence prevention in schools. Her years in school counseling gave her unique insight into the emotional and physical risks children face daily. This front-line experience catalyzed her transition into prevention-focused authorship, allowing her to expand her impact beyond the walls of the school system. Publications and Impact Julie is the author of several acclaimed children’s books that address sensitive topics through clear, age-appropriate language. Her first book, Some Parts Are NOT for Sharing, which teaches young children about body safety and consent, has sold over 18,000 copies and continues to be widely used by parents, educators, and child advocacy professionals. Her titles include: Child Abuse Prevention: Some Parts Are NOT for Sharing, Algunas Partes No Son Para Compartir Domestic Violence Prevention: Anger is OKAY Violence is NOT/El enojo está BIEN La violencia NO (Spanish Edition) School Violence Prevention: The Bad Guys in the Book of Colors Anger Management: Anger is OKAY, Violence is NOT/El enojo está BIEN La violencia NO (Spanish Edition) Friendship & Social Skills: Friends are Wonderful Diversity and Inclusion: God Made Me Black Because He is Creative Federico, J. (2021). How to talk to toddlers about child abuse prevention. US-China Law Review, 18(6), 274–278. Her books have been recognized with multiple awards, including first-place honors from the Colorado Independent Publishers Association EVVY Awards (2013) and honorable mentions from the New England Book Festival (2014). In 2025, Anger is OKAY, Violence is NOT won the International Impact Book Award. Advocacy and Public Speaking Julie is a sought-after national speaker, presenting at conferences, schools, and parent groups across the U.S. Her prevention message has been featured at the Prevent Child Abuse Conference, Head Start programs, elementary schools, and national advocacy events such as the “Shattering the Silence” U.S. Tour. She has also presented at the Hawaii International Summit on Preventing, Assessing & Treating Trauma Across the Lifespan. Known for her direct yet compassionate approach, Julie equips adults with practical strategies for addressing abuse prevention with young children. Her work is grounded in trauma-informed practices and focuses on breaking the silence that often surrounds child abuse. Mission and Philosophy Julie believes that prevention begins with education and that even the most difficult topics can be addressed with young children when delivered in a thoughtful, developmentally appropriate way. Her mission is to ensure that all children understand body safety, boundaries, and their right to speak up—empowering them to protect themselves and others.
