The AES specifies application-level interfaces that an implementation must provide to support portable applications and the semantics or protocols associated with each of these interfaces. Revision B is the most up-to-date version of AES. Elements of AES can be implemented on a wide variety of hardware platforms, and support hardware-independent applications. The OSF Application Environment Specification (AES) is based on: POSIX 1003.1, FIPS 151-1, ANSI C; XPG3 base, XTI; AT & T System V Interface Definition (SVID) Issue 2, base plus kernel extensions; BSD4.3.
