Synopsis
This monograph features what happens when light meets molecules. This edited volume contains contributions from an international array of contributors, and it is divided into sections representing a selection of carefully focussed and connected photochemistry topics: energy, technology, medicine, environmental sciences, and art. In each section one or more chapters illustrates relevant aspects of each field, such as artificial photosynthesis and solar energy conversion (energy), light emitting devices and photochromic dyes (technology), and photodynamic therapy and solar filters (medicine). Aimed at students of all levels and researchers active in photochemistry.
À propos de l?auteur
Prof. Serena Silvi received her laurea in Chemistry cum laude from the University of Bologna in 2002 under the supervision of prof. Vincenzo Balzani, with a thesis on the photophysical and electrochemical study of new prototypes of artificial molecular machines. From 2003 to 2005 she followed the graduate program on Chemical Sciences under the supervision of prof. Alberto Credi, earning her Ph.D. in 2006 with a thesis entitled Artificial Molecular Machines . In 2005 she spent a six-months research period in the laboratory of prof. Angel E. Kaifer, at the University of Miami.
From 2006 to 2008 she collaborated to the research in the Photochemistry and Supramolecular Chemistry laboratory, leaded by prof. Vincenzo Balzani.
Since December 2008 she has a permanent position as a researcher in general and inorganic chemistry at the Department of Chemistry G. Ciamician of the University of Bologna.
She is co-author of more than 50 papers on international journals. She attended more than 20 national and international conferences with oral and poster communications.
Prof. Giacomo Bergamini received his laurea (cum laude) in chemistry at the University of Bologna in 2003, defending a thesis on photophysical and electrochemical characterization of dendrimers, advisor Prof. Vincenzo Balzani. In the 2007 he got the PhD in Chemical Sciences at the University of Bologna, working under the supervision of Prof. Vincenzo Balzani in the field of design and characterization of supramolecular systems.
He was a visiting scientist, for six months, in the laboratory Photochemistry and Spectroscopy of Prof. Frans De Schryver at the Katolieke Universiteit of Leuven (Belgium), financially supported by a grant from Marco Polo programme.
Jan. 2007- Oct 2011 he got research fellowships to work at the Photochemistry and Supramolecular Chemistry group, directed by Prof. Vincenzo Balzani, in the Department of Chemistry G. Ciamician .
Since November 2011 is Ricercatore a Tempo Determinato at the University of Bologna, Department of Chemistry G. Ciamician .
He has published 50 research papers published on international journal, 6 of which are review articles, and 3 book chapters.
He attended more than 20 national and international conferences with oral or poster presentations (in particular oral presentations at: 5th International Dendrimer Symposium (IDS-5) Toulouse, France and XIInd IUPAC Symposium on Photochemistry Gothenburg, Sweden); 3rd EuChems Chemistry Congress Nuremberg, Germany.
He was awarded Premio tesi 2004, radiazioni ionizzanti e non ionizzanti prize by SIRR (International Society of Radiation Research) in 2004. He was a finalist of the 2010 European Young Chemist Award .
He received the International Vincenzo Caglioti prize 2013, by the Accademia Nazionale dei lincei."
