Cody was among the foremost architects of the Palm Springs Modernist circle that included Albert Frey, Richard Neutra, E. Stewart Williams, Donald Wexler, and Cliff May. Trained at USC (graduated 1942), Cody opened his Palm Springs office in the late 1940s after the Desert Inn commission brought him to the desert; over the next three decades he produced an unusually prolific body of resort, residential, ecclesiastical, and civic work before a 1972 stroke ended his practice. Williams' summary, quoted in the catalog: "He was the best designer of all of us, where I brought the desert into architecture, Cody brought 5th Avenue into the desert. He used elegant materials like teak and marble." The catalog opens with a biographical essay by architectural historian Andy Sotta tracing Cody's California training, his marriage to Winifred Smith, and his Palm Springs collaborations with Donald Wexler, Ric Harrison, Frank Urrutia, and his brother John J. Cody, then provides illustrated profiles of five featured structures and three drive-by tour sites. Welcome letter signed by William Kopelk, PSPF President. Cover renders Cody's 1946 unbuilt addition to The Desert Inn, the commission that first brought him to Palm Springs.Contents: Welcome (William Kopelk); William Francis Cody, F.A.I.A.
