A propos de cet article

Description :

Archive of material from the career of Robert McKenzie, aka "Fast Floyd," the original guitarist in the band Mink DeVille, leader of Fast Floyd and the Famous Firebirds, and guitarist for the Spiders. Includes two dozen pages of original lyrics, over 60 band flyers, three flyer maquettes, two dozen photographs and contact sheets, handwritten set lists, promotional materials, news clipping, and fan club letters. After an early stint in Mink DeVille, Fast Floyd relocated to San Francisco and became a fixture in the early SF punk rock scene centered at the Mabuhay Gardens. Despite being an R&B outfit, the scene at the time was much more inclusive, pairing Floyd with such punk stalwarts as DNA, MX80, Offs, Mutants, and the Controllers. By the early 80's, Fast Floyd and the Famous Firebirds solidified their R&B approach, and found their own audience away from the punk scene. With the later addition of Floyd's girlfriend, "Silke" on vocals, they became known as "San Francisco's raunchiest band," due to her performing in a negligee and willingness to expose herself. This would install them as a fixture in the Exotic Erotic Ball for several years. The cover of Fast Floyd and the Famous Firebirds 1983 LP "Devil's Daughter" featured an uncredited photograph of the famous exotic dancer Candy Barr (Juanita Dale Slusher), notorious for her friendships with Jack Ruby and Mickey Cohen, shooting a husband, and being the subject of a celebrated marijuana possession case. Having become Christian later in life, she wrote the band objecting to pairing her image with the title "Devil's Daughter." While her original letter is missing, a photocopy is present (along with a holograph draft of Floyd's first letter to Barr), in which Barr report that the photos is not of her but since people claim it is she would appreciate a monetary "gift" if the album turns a profit. An interesting collection of material illuminating the early SF punk scene, as well as the mechanics of being in a working independent band. N° de réf. du vendeur 412416
