Munich: J. Gotteswinter, 1938., 1938. Very good. - Five octavo volumes, 9-1/2 inches high by 6-3/4 inches wide. Softcovers, bound white wrappers printed in gray and gold. The contents are as follows: 1) August 14, 1938. PARSIFAL. [1]-14, 8 unnumbered pages, 15-28 plus 8 pages of ads. The music was conducted by Karl Bohm and starred Rudolf Dittrich as Parsifal. The program is profusely illustrated including with portraits of Adolf Wagner, Clemens Krauss, Richard Strauss, Rudolf Hartmann, Karl Bohm, and Gino Marinuzzi. Inserts in the program include an 8-page account of the story of Parsifal in three languages, an 8-page announcement of the upcoming season of the Bavarian State Opera, September 25, 1938-May 25, 1939, and a flyer announcing an Italian program conducted by Gino Marinuzzi. 2) August 18, 1938. DIE GESCHOPFE DES PROMETHEUS and FRIEDENSTAG. [1]-14, 8 unnumbered pages, 15-28 plus 8 pages of ads. Beethoven's Prometheus ballet was conducted by Meinhard von Zallinger, with choreography by Pia and Pino Mlakar. Strauss' opera Friedenstag was conducted by Clemens Krauss and featured Hans Hotter and Viorica Ursuleac. The program is well illustrated including portraits of Adolf Wagner, Clemens Krauss, Richard Strauss,Rudolf Hartmann, and scenes from Friedenstag. An 8-page insert in 4 languages recounts the tales of the two works on the program. A flyer announces an Italian program conducted by Gino Marinuzzi, and another flyer on pink stock announcing that smoking is forbidden in corridors and passageways. 3) September 4, 1938. DON CARLOS. Pages numbered [29], 30-46, 8 unnumbered pages, 47-64 plus 8 pages of ads. The opera was conducted by Clemens Krauss and featured Hans Hermann Nissen, Alexander Sved and Viorica Ursuleac. Well illustrated including with portraits of Adolf Wagner, Clemns Krauss with Rudolf Hartmann, Richard Strauss with Clemens Krauss, Ludwig Sievert, Karl Ostertag, Gino Marinuzzi and scenes from the opera. Inserted is a flyer on pink stock announcing that smoking is forbidden in corridors and passageways. 4) September 6, 1938. TOSCA. Pages numbered [29], 30-46, 8 unnumbered pages, 47-64 plus 8 pages of ads. The opera was conduted by Clemens Krauss and featured Viorica Ursuleac, Alexander Sved and Karl Ostertag. Well illustrated including portraits of Adolf Wagner,Clemens Krauss with Rudolf Hartmann, Richard Strauss with Clemens Krauss, Ludwig Sievert, Viorica Ursuleac, Rochus Gliese, Gino Marinuzzi and scenes from the opera. An 8-page insert in 3 languages recounts the story of the opera and the flyer on pink stock announcing that smoking is forbidden in corridors and passageways is also included. 5) September 7, 1938. AIDA. Pages numbered [29], 30-46, 8 unnumbered pages, 47-64 plus 8 pages of ads. The opera was conducted by Clemens Krauss and featured Hildegarde Ranczak, Alexander Sved, Torsten Ralf and Luise Willer. Well illustrated including portraits of Adolf Wagner,Clemens Krauss with Rudolf Hartmann, Richard Strauss with Clemens Krauss, Ludwig Sievert, Gino Marinuzzi and scenes from the opera. An 8-page insert in 3 languages recounts the story of the opera and the flyer on pink stock announcing that smoking is forbidden in corridors and passageways is also included. The edges of the covers are darkened with a tiny chips to the top edge of the first and fourth volumes. The spine of the third volume is slightly splitting along the bottom with some more splitting along the spine of the fifth volume. Very good.
