There was a season when I felt invincible, but not in the way people imagined. I didn’t feel powerful. I didn’t feel celebrated. I felt unneeded, easily replaced, and constantly remembered that no matter how much I poured out, it would never be enough. Low emotional engagement in communication is when a person responds, but without depth; they’re around, but not present, they care, but not consistently. They show inconsistent affection or effort, warm one day, distant the next. Leaving you with a feeling of never quite knowing where you stand. This inconsistency in your communication creates emotional confusion. Normally, people have an avoidance of vulnerability issues because they don’t open up emotionally by sharing feelings. When confronted, they keep things “safe” and on a surface level by lacking in communication.
