Item description from seller

This is Volume II ONLY, it is the second installment in a popular three-volume collection of local history, folklore, and storytelling focused primarily on Henderson County and the broader Western North Carolina mountains. It is not a formal, chronological history book. Instead, it is a lively, anecdotal compilation that blends historical facts, legends, tall tales and folklore, biographical sketches and stories of everyday mountain life. Author Frank L. FitzSimons (often called ?the old man on the mountain?) was a longtime Western North Carolina broadcaster, historian, and storyteller. For over 25 years, he shared researched stories, anecdotes, and legends on local radio station WHKP. Volume I (published 1976) was highly successful and won the Thomas Wolfe Memorial Literary Award in 1977. Volume II (first published around 1977?1978 by Golden Glow Publishing, with later reprints in 1998) compiles additional material from those broadcasts that had not appeared in the first book. This second printing is bound in dark red linen cloth with gilt lettering on the cover and spine. Illustrated throughout with drawings and photographs in black and white. 413 pp. Illustrated dust jacket is white with black lettering. Both book and dust jacket are VG. Previous owner's ex-libre bookplate on the front flyleaf, otherwise unmarked. Leaves have lightly toned. DJ is lightly soiled with some minor wear. A nice, solid copy. Full refund if not satisfied.

Description de la boutique

Since 2005, Shelley and Son Books has been passionate about books, and preserving their importance for current and future generations. We believe that virtue and beauty have a close relationship. By reading we gain knowledge. In knowledge we find things that inform our choices and beliefs. Therefore, as booksellers, we see that books have an aesthetic value and a heuristic value. We specialize in The Inklings, primarily "The Seven'": C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, Dorothy Sayers, G. K. Chesterton, George MacDonald, Owen Barfield and Charles Williams. A sub-specialty is our significant collection of Christian Theology. But you'll also find works across the centuries, first editions, signed copies, and even modern books, too, across a broad selection of categories and genres. Customer service is of utmost importance to us, and our friendly staff is always happy to help. We assure our clients books of quality, as each copy is carefully graded and shipped with care. Located in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina, we can be found on Main Street in Hendersonville, North Carolina, (just south of Asheville). We are primarily an online bookstore, but we invite you to make an appointment for an on-site visit! Shelley and Son Books is owned by Stan Shelley.
