Your milestone should not become a referendum on your love.

An engagement, wedding, pregnancy, holiday, move, illness, divorce, or death can shift attention and family roles overnight. When an emotionally immature parent responds with pressure, guilt, interference, silence, or a public scene, general advice to "set a boundary" may not tell you what to do before the next call, visit, announcement, or event.

A plan for the moment that is already coming

Your Big Day, Their Big Feelings is a practical boundary guide for high-stakes family flashpoints. It helps you decide what belongs to you, control the timing of private information, protect your partner and supporters, prepare concise scripts, and choose the next step when the first no is ignored.

The PREPARE Plan

At the center of the book is the PREPARE Plan: Predict the pressure points, Reserve the decisions, Establish the access rules, Practice the scripts, Activate support, Respond by level, and Exit and recover. The companion Boundary Ladder shows how to State, Reduce, Remove, or Protect, so consequences remain proportionate and under your control.

Every event chapter applies the same method to a specific situation. You will find planning tables, realistic composite scenarios, first and second sentences for difficult conversations, vendor and visitor safeguards, information tiers, support roles, exit plans, and an After Action Review that helps one painful moment stop owning the memory of the entire day.

This book is for readers who...

This book is for readers who can manage ordinary life but lose their footing when a parent tries to control a wedding; shares pregnancy or birth news; demands holiday access; intrudes on a move or career decision; competes during illness; takes sides in a divorce; or turns a funeral into a conflict about rank and recognition.

Keep the decision where it belongs

The aim is not to change another adult or make every relative happy. It is to give you a structured way to protect decisions, access, relationships, and recovery while allowing other adults to carry their own feelings. For readers seeking clear scripts and event-specific boundaries with emotionally immature parents, this handbook offers a plan to use before, during, and after the flashpoint.
