Bill Blass was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1922, moved to New York City before he was 20, and worked as a fashion designer for 60 years until his retirement in 2000. He has won countless awards for his work and is recognized as America's most important fashion designer. He lives in New York City and Connecticut. Helen O'Hagen was, for 38 years, vice-president in charge of public relations and special events for Saks Fifth Avenue. She lives in New York City and Charleston, South Carolina. Kate Rowold is the curator of the Elizabeth Sage Historic Costume Collection at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, where the Bill Blass archives are located. She lives in Heltonville, Indiana. Michael Vollbracht is a fashion designer, portraitist, and widely published illustrator. He lives in New York City and Florida.
