Dr. Yang Xiao worked in the industry as a medium access control (MAC) architect and was involved in the IEEE 802.11 standard enhancement work before joining the Department of Computer Science at the University of Memphis in 2002. He is currently with the Department of Computer Science (with tenure) at the University of Alabama.
Dr. Xiao
was a voting member of the IEEE 802.11 Working Group from 2001 to 2004. He is also a senior member of the IEEE. Dr. Xiao serves as a panelist for the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI)'s Telecommunications Expert Committee, and the American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS). He also serves as a referee/reviewer for many national and international funding agencies. His research interests include security, communications/networks, robotics, and telemedicine. He has published more than 160 refereed journal papers and over 200 refereed conference papers and book chapters related to these areas. His research has been supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), U.S. Army Research the Global Environment for Network Innovations (GENI), Fleet Industrial Supply Center-San Diego (FISCSD), FIATECH, and the University of Alabama's Research Grants Committee. He currently serves as editor-in-chief for the
International Journal of Security and Networks (IJSN) and the
International Journal of Sensor Networks (IJSNet). He was also the founding editor-in-chief for the
International Journal of Telemedicine and Applications (IJTA) (2007-2009).
