A propos de cet article

Brown cloth with waterproof sizing; gold spine titles; 8vo; xii, 8.75 inches; 458 pages with an index with a colored folded map and numerous illustrations. The bindings are tight and square. Text is clean; light, even age-toning. Moderate shelf handling wear. Page 9/10 with loss on edge from poor opening. Gutter open, though firm at title page. In this engaging ornithological study of the Anglo-Scottish border, Abel Chapman shares observations gathered over forty years, enriched with numerous in-text illustrations and eleven of his own plates. After introductory chapters discussing seasonal changes in bird life, migration patterns, and avian diseases, Chapman dives into his detailed accounts of various species, including wildfowl, grey geese, grebes, and ducks. Born in Sunderland, Chapman was not only a naturalist and hunter but also played a key role in saving the Spanish Ibex from extinction and helped establish South Africa's first game reserve.
