Item description from seller

Oversized hardcover, with dust jacket. Bound in green cloth over boards with gold lettering to the spine. White dust jacket, illustrated with all sorts of bird and black lettering. Dated 1968 on the copyright and title page. 445 pages. Fold-out map at rear of book. Full color illustrated plates throughout. Good condition. Binding is strong and square. Some light rubbing to the cloth around the edges of the boards. Pages lightly toned, but free of any marks or writing. Endpapers and edges foxed. Dust jacket is toned and foxed. A small sticker at the foot of the spine, with the number 10,173. We believe this is from Thomas Lovejoy's personal library inventory system. He has written his name at the head of the front free endpaper, " Tom Lovejoy New Haven, Conn. June, 1968". This book is from the collection of Thomas Lovejoy. Dr. Lovejoy was an influential ecologist, field biologist, and activist; former head of the Amazon Biodiversity Center, World Wildlife Fund, and advisor to the United Nations and Smithsonian Institution. He is credited with introducing the term ‘biological diversity’ to the mainstream environmental movement. In addition, he was a passionate collector of books on the natural world. He died in 2021 and we are very excited to present a selection of his books. Please browse the entire catalogue here on ABE or contact us for instructions on how to get to it. This is an oversized book. Extra shipping may be required for international or priority shipping.

Description de la boutique

We're at 805 Caroline Street, in the heart of Fredericksburg's historic district. Open Monday to Saturday 10-6; and Sunday 12-5. In warmer months we stay open until 9 most nights, but you might want to call ahead. (540) 373-6148 Shipping rates are for Media Mail, in a padded envelope - WE DO NOT ADD TRACKING UNLESS THE CUSTOMER REQUESTS IT AND PAYS FOR IT - we have been selling books online for more than 20 years & find that the USPO delivers 99.99% of packages quickly and safely, without any need for a tracking number. We trust them & we hope you will too. If you need tracking, please consider PRIORITY SHIPPING. We ship orders valued at more than $50 in a box, at no additional charge. Priority mailing is for a Flat-Rate envelope, with tracking included. If the book does not fit into a flat rate envelope, we will likely need to request extra shipping costs from you, in order to put it in a box. We only charge the actual amount of shipping, so we hope you'll understand that it's just a matter of getting the book to you without taking a loss on it -- shipping is a service we happily offer without a 'handling' charge.... but we can't afford to charge you less than the cost of the stamps!
