His books include: From Slavery to Freedom: A History of Negro Americans, Southern Odyssey: Travelers in the Antebellum North, and Racial Equality in America.August Meier is University Professor of History at Kent State University and editor of the series Blacks in the New World published by the University of Illinois Press. He is the author of Negro Thought in America, 1880-1915 and co-author, with Elliott Rudwick, of several books including From Plantation to Ghetto
