Kirby I. Bland, M.D., is Professor Emeritus and Chair Emeritus in the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Surgery. An internationally recognized leader in surgical oncology, Dr. Bland has made significant contributions to breast cancer research, translational science, and surgical education. He has served as principal investigator and program leader for multiple National Cancer Institute Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPORE) grants, with research focused on targeted therapies and chemoprevention for breast cancer and melanoma. Dr. Bland has authored or co-authored nearly 600 peer-reviewed publications and authored or edited 44 textbooks, including
The Breast: Comprehensive Management of Benign and Malignant Diseases, a leading reference in the field. He has also served as president of numerous national surgical societies, reflecting his longstanding leadership and impact on academic surgery and surgical oncology.
V. Suzanne Klimberg, M.D., is the Courtney M. Townsend, Jr., M.D. Distinguished Chair in General Surgery, Professor and Vice Chair for Administration, Chief of Surgical Oncology, and Medical Director of the UTMB Cancer Center, with an adjunct appointment at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. An internationally recognized leader in breast surgical oncology, Dr. Klimberg is known for pioneering innovations in breast cancer surgery, including the axillary reverse mapping (ARM) technique for lymphedema prevention, oncoplastic and minimally invasive breast surgery, and novel approaches to breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. She has served as president of the Association of Academic Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, and the Southern Surgical Association, and currently serves in leadership roles with the American Board of Surgery, the American Board of Complex Surgical Oncology, and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Klimberg has authored more than 350 peer-reviewed publications, 75 book chapters, and 17 books, and holds nine patents related to innovations in breast cancer surgery.
William J. Gradishar, M.D., is the Betsy Bramsen Professor of Breast Oncology in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Director of the Maggie Daley Center for Women's Cancer Care, and a member of the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center. An internationally recognized expert in breast cancer, his research focuses on the development of novel therapeutics for the treatment of breast cancer. Dr. Gradishar has held numerous leadership roles within the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG), and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), where he has served on the Breast Cancer Guidelines and Breast Cancer Prevention Panels. He also serves as a consultant to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Oncology Drug Advisory Committee and has contributed extensively to the field through service on editorial boards of leading oncology journals.
