A propos de cet article

Description :

8vo. Second edition. First published in 1934. 2 volumes bound in Jade (B.C.C. 122) cloth, sivergilt, in matching cloth slipcase. 1. Concertina-folding card with 240 silk ribbon swatches mounted on 12 panels; 2. A List of Colour Names referring to the colours shown in the companion volume. Both books have written instructions from John Chaplin, 'Do not touch the swatches'! The slipcase is partially tanned and has a short split at the head. Near fine. This second edition expands the range of colours by twenty, including Mauve, Clover, Elephant Grey and Donkey Brown. (In this copy the name for B.C.C. 20 is 'African Brown'.) The list entry for Jade states that, 'The colour illustrated represents Caledon Jade, an outstanding discovery of the British dye-stuffs industry in 1920, which since that time has been very popular in the textile and allied trades.' It was developed by chemists at Scottish Dyes Ltd, Grangemouth (later ICI Dyestuffs Division) and clearly plays on celadon/Caledonia. Most copies would have been used and pulled to pieces. An uncommon survivor. N° de réf. du vendeur 8893
