A propos de cet article

The work exemplifies the efforts of the Woman Suffrage Party (WSP) to build solidarity with other political movements. The WSP was founded in New York by Carrie Chapman Catt in 1909 as a union of suffrage organizations in the city. The WSP was notable for its broad campaign that brought in women from immigrant and working-class backgrounds, Black and Chinese women, and Catholics. In 1917, women gained the right to vote in New York, and the WSP helped women exercise their voting rights through education, literacy efforts, and helping immigrant women gain citizenship. 7 x 9 in. Sheet of purple paper toned at edges. Chip missing from top edge (touching a couple letters but not affecting meaning). Mounted on a larger piece of blue paper with adhesive at corners. A good copy of a rare and fragile item. This broadside was issued by the Woman Suffrage Party to demonstrate solidarity between the labor movement and suffragists. Quotes by three labor leaders are printed here, including one by UK Labour Party founder Keir Hardie that reads, ÒI would advise all the Workers of America to work for Woman SuffrageÉMy message to them is COURAGE.Ó Another quote by American Federation of Labor president Samuel Gompers reads, ÒI am for unqualified woman suffrage as a matter of human justiceÉMEN would feel that they were used badly if they did not have that right, and WOMEN naturally feel the same.Ó OCLC records no other copies.…

Description de la boutique

Our office is located in Los Angeles on West Third Street, between the Beverly Center and Farmer's Market. Though we gave up an open shop after more than thirty years, we welcome serious customers and dealers. We are normally open from 10 to 6 Monday through Saturday. Since some of our less expensive books are located in a temperature-controlled storage area offsite, you may want to call ahead of time to insure that the book you want to see will be available. We feature a stock strong in literature, history, Western philosophy, history of science, history of computers, and art. We are members of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers. We have books from the 15th to the 20th century in all prices ranges. We do appraisals for income tax and insurance purposes. We purchase individual books and libraries. Proprietors: Michael R. Thompson, Kathleen D. Thompson, Carol Sandberg…
