Professor Friedman is the author of The Justices of the United States Supreme Court, 1789-1969, and The Supreme Court Confronts Abortion. Waldo E. Martin is Professor of History at the University of California-Berkeley. He is the author of The Mind of Frederick Douglass, Brown v. Board of Education, and Civil Rights in the United States (co-edited with Patricia Sullivan).
