General industry compliance touches nearly every corner of a workplace — floors, machines, chemicals, electrical systems, respirators, and paperwork.
A safety program is only as strong as its weakest subpart. Federal general industry safety regulations are dense, cross-referenced, and hard to apply operationally: twenty-six subparts, thousands of paragraphs, and citation language that reads like statute rather than a training manual.
For the person actually responsible for compliance — a safety officer walking the floor, an EHS manager writing the annual program, or an employer wearing every hat at once — the challenge isn't finding the regulation. It's translating it into a decision that holds up during an actual inspection.
This manual works systematically through the regulatory subparts governing general industry workplaces — manufacturing, warehousing, food processing, printing, and similar operations outside construction and maritime — translating regulatory language into the specific compliance actions, calculations, and documentation each standard actually requires, chapter by chapter, from the legal framework through every major hazard category.
What you will work through
- Learn to read and apply a regulatory citation correctly, down to the subparagraph, so an abatement plan addresses the actual requirement cited
- Work through calculation-based examples covering respirator selection ratios, fall-arrest clearance distances, and a complete lockout/tagout sequence from notification through re-energization
- Build the documentation a real compliance program needs, including energy control procedures, hazard communication programs, and the fourteen elements of a process safety management program
- Recognize the machine guarding, electrical, and hazardous-materials conditions most frequently connected to serious citations, flagged throughout with dedicated warning callouts
- Apply hazard assessment logic to select appropriate personal protective equipment, and practice distinguishing recordable injuries from first-aid-only cases
- Understand how an inspection actually proceeds, how violations are categorized and penalized, and what rights an employer has when contesting a citation
- Self-check understanding chapter by chapter with scored practice problems and complete worked answer explanations
Sixteen chapters, one continuous reference: walking-working surfaces and fall protection, means of egress and fire prevention, powered industrial trucks and materials handling, personal protective equipment, hazardous materials storage, electrical safety and arc-flash awareness, machine guarding, hand and portable power tools, welding cutting and brazing, several special-industry standards, toxic substances and hazard communication, process safety management, control of hazardous energy, respiratory protection, and injury and illness recordkeeping — supported by illustrated figures, quick-reference appendices, a glossary, and a cross-referenced index.
Written for safety officers, EHS managers, compliance officers, program administrators, and employers who carry real day-to-day responsibility for a general industry workplace's safety program, and who need one dependable reference spanning the full range of standards rather than a narrow single-topic guide.
Open the book and start building the kind of working knowledge that holds up under an actual inspection — one standard, one worked example, and one chapter at a time.

**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies.
