Item description from seller

[fp], [ffep], [2], 3-382, [2], [rp]. Hardcover: H 21.5cm x L 13.75cm. Fairly contemporary quarter leather binding. Maroon leather spine well scuffed along joints with lengthwise furrows, flaking/dulling to horizontal gilt bars, black title label's gilt lettering dulled but legible. Brown cloth boards with floral decoration; strong rubbing with some staining, frayed wear to cloth along edges with strongest wear at board corners. Front endpapers and rear pastedown toned; past owner's old pencil signature on front pastedown with same owner's old ink inscription ("John B. Fennell | Richburg | S C") on front free endpaper recto with; other pencil and ink marks on same two pages. Text collates as complete. Unpaged title leaf as pages [1-2]. Vol. II, No. 1; January 1844: pages 3-32; Vol. II, No. 2; February 1844: pages 33-64; Vol. II, No. 3; March 1844: pages 65-96; Vol. II, No. 4; April 1844: pages 97-128; Vol. II, No. 5; May 1844: pages 129-160; Vol. II, No. 6; June 1844: pages 161-192; Vol. II, No. 7; July 1844: pages 193-224; Vol. II, No. 8; August 1844: pages 225-256; Vol. II, No. 9; September 1844: pages 257-288; Vol. II, No. 10; October 1844: pages 289-320; Vol. II, No. 11; November 1844: pages 321-352; Vol. II, No. 12; December 1844: pages 353-382. Last leaf present is unpaged "Index to Volume Second" followed by rear pastedown with no interlaying flyleaf or free endpaper (as they may have been removed). Foxing throughout with some light moisture staining; occasional pencil marks; several leaves and quires pulled with pages 27-30 only tenuously still holding to binding; top margin of pages 57-58 torn out but not affecting text; pronounced toning to leaves comprising August through November issues probably because caused by different paper stock; a few antiquarian ink stains affect rear leaves. Narrow splitting evident to rear hinge but still holding. Only a good copy at best but a rather scarce sectarian southern religious periodical and unusual antebellum Columbia, South Carolina imprint which was published for only nine years between 1843 and 1851. OCLC locates various issues/volumes at sixteen member institutions but only Louisville, Kentucky's Southern Baptist Theological Seminary apparently possesses a full run of the magazine. A cursory internet search indicates that there was a Richburg, SC resident by the name of John Bratton Fennell who lived 1876-1935.
