A propos de cet article

Front. port., bound without half title. [iii]-[viii], [2], viii. 19thC half calf. Bookplate and stamps on e.ps only of L.A. Law Library. ESTC T107128, BL, Queens Belfast, John Rylands; Huntington, Minnesota. Hackman met Martha Reay (or Ray) in 1775. She was the mistress of Lord Sandwich and mother of his 9 children, while Sandwich's wife lived in an apartment at Windsor. Having, apparently, fallen in love with Reay, Hackman followed her to Covent Garden in April 1779, shot her and then attempted suicide. Despite some clear signs of madness, he was swiftly found guilty and hanged at Tyburn in the same month.
