A propos de cet article

Good. Original navy cloth showing wear concentrated at the spine head, with fraying and cloth loss at that point; front and rear boards otherwise clean with light surface marks. Gilt front board crest and spine lettering intact and legible. No dust jacket (none issued). Interior clean throughout. Title page bears ownership signature W. Dekker in ink at upper right, and a blue institutional deaccession stamp of the Bibliotheek Medische Faculteit Maastricht (Library of the Medical Faculty, University of Maastricht) at lower right. Front pastedown carries a striking decorated ex libris bookplate of the original owner. This 1935 first edition is the principal monograph of Solomon Katzenelbogen, M.D., Associate in Psychiatry at the Henry Phipps Psychiatric Clinic of the Johns Hopkins Medical School — the first dedicated psychiatric clinic in the United States — and formerly Privat-Docent of Internal Medicine at the University of Geneva. The work synthesizes physiological and clinical research on cerebrospinal fluid composition and its relationship to blood chemistry, and was reviewed by the Journal of Mental Science (Royal College of Psychiatrists) upon publication. It was co-issued simultaneously by Oxford University Press / Humphrey Milford for the British and European market, indicating the publisher's confidence in its international scientific reach. The book continues to be cited in neurological and biochemical literature. The copy carries the ownership signature and decorative ex libris bookplate of Willem Albert Lout Dekker — a Dutch physician or scientist whose bookplate, dated 1941, bears the motto "Wetenschap Aangaande Leven en Dood" (Knowledge concerning Life and Death) and an elaborate Art Deco design incorporating a full planetary cosmological diagram with alchemical and astronomical symbols, a human face, and a skull. The plate was commissioned during the German occupation of the Netherlands, placing this book within the context of a Dutch medical intellectual maintaining his scientific library under occupation. The book subsequently passed to the Maastricht Medical Faculty Library and was later deaccessioned — giving it a complete and traceable Dutch provenance chain from private collection to institutional library. Carefully packed and shipped in a box. Shipped via USPS with tracking provided. International shipping available. Additional photographs available upon request. SCI 1a.…
