The Text Block is clean, white, tight, straight and square with no markings of any kind and two leaves in the middle of the book with small chips to the bottom outside corners. The Binding is full green cloth with gilt framed bright color cameo of a woman along with bright black title and author to the front board, bright black title, etc., to the spine, white endpapers unmarked except for a gift inscription, elegantly written, on the front free endpaper, and all corners still square and sharp. The Dust Jacket is intact with wear to the head and heel of the spine and weak spots discreetly reinforced from behind with archival (pH neutral) tape. See photos. 219 pages. 5 1/4" x 7 1/2". This detective/mystery novel, first published by Curtis Publishing Company in 1906, marks the first appearance of Augustus S. F. X. Van Dusen, "The Thinking Machine", in the works of the author.
