A propos de cet article

FIRST EDITION, pp. 85, crown 8vo, original quarter black cloth with pale green boards, backstrip with browned printed label, the boards with a few faint marks, a little rubbed at edges with light wear to extremities, good. Inscribed by the author on the initial blank: 'To Maria's Beloved Mother, who Brought the charm of the South Into a Pastoral French October, With deep affection, Eugene Jolas, Colombey les 2 Eglises, Haute Marne, Oct. 20. 1927'. These various strands of the author's background, as well as the mystical strain that would grow in prominence as a feature of his verse, are represented in this collection: the section 'Ink' offers a romantic vision of newspaper life; the final poem is an 'Alsatian Pilgrimage'; elsewhere, there are poems on jazz, whilst those on modes of transport, radio, and the title-poem (which is an attempt to reproduce cinematic techniques rather than a poem about the medium)juxtapose an embrace of mechanisation with the poet's ecstatic voice.…
