The first editions of six works centered on letters and correspondence, including the heartfelt and personal writings of many a famous figure. Published between 1952-1984.In the publisher's original cloth, all in the original unclipped dust wrappers except Meynell which is clipped.- Robert Ross, Friend of Friends: Being Letters to Robert Ross Art Critic and Writer Together with Extracts from his Published Articles, edited by Margery Ross. Contains a frontispiece of Ross, as well as all eleven other plates. Collated complete. (Jonathan Cape, 1952).- The Best of Friends: Further Letters to Sydney Carlyle Cockerell, a collection of letters from various figures, including George Bernard Shaw and Alec Guinness, to the English museum curator and collector, edited by Viola Meynell. Contains a frontispiece of Cockerell, as well as seven portraits of famous correspondents. Collated complete. (Rupert Hart-Davis, 1956).- Dearest Mama Talbot: A Selection of Letters from John Ruskin to Fanny Talbot, as well as from Joan Severn to Mrs. John Simon, edited by Margaret Spence. (George Allen & Unwin, 1966).-Essays and Papers, a collection of writings from English librarian and scholar Alan Noel Latimer Munby, edited with an introduction by Nicolas Barker. The review copy. Contains nine full-page illustrations, including a frontispiece of Munby. (Scolar Press, 1977).- William Caslon, 1693-1766: The Ancestry, Life and Connections of England's Foremost Letter-Engraver and Type-Founder, written by Johnson Ball. Contains a colour frontispiece of Caslon, and all sixty-eight plates, as well as two folding plates. Collated complete. (The Roundwood Press, 1973).- The Living Curve: Letters to W.J. Strachan, a collection of letters from various figures including Nancy Cunard and Percy Horton, to the British translator and author. Contains a frontispiece of Strachan, two colour plates, and numerous in-text illustrations. Collated complete. (Taranman/Carcanet, 1984). In the publisher's original cloth, all in the original unclipped dust wrappers except Meynell which is clipped. Externally, in excellent condition, with minimal marks and edgewear. Faint patch of fading to head of spine of Ball. Dust wrappers are generally bright and clean, with minimal marks and edgewear to Hewett and Munby. Slight spotting and the odd smudge mark to rear wrappers of Ball, Ross, Meynell and Spence, spotting a little heavier to Spence. Fading to wrapper spines and extremities of Ross and Meynell, with the odd spot to the front wrappers. Slight signs of wrapper edgewear, with small chips to head and tail of spine of Ross, and to top edge of Ball. Fading to extremities of Ball wrapper. End papers are bright and clean to Munby and Talbot, with the odd spot to Hewett, Ross, Ball, and Meynell, lighter to Ball and a little heavier to Ross. Slight browning to fore-edges of Spence, Ross and Ball. Previous owner's bookplate to Munby. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with a couple of small spots to Spence and slight age toning to extremities of Ross. Previous owner's annotations to title leaf of Ross and Ball. Review Copy note to Munby. Fine.
