A propos de cet article
A good+ set of the apparent complete six-volume hard cover edition. Each volume includes illustrations. Volume I contains Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, and Our Mutual Friend; text unmarked, solid binding (no splitting in gutters), with moderate wear/fraying at the extremities, and bright and fresh gilt devices and lettering. Volume II contains Great Expectations, Little Dorrit, and Martin Chuzzlewit; text is unmarked, binding is solid (no splitting in the gutters), with moderate wear at the extremities, and bright and fresh gilt lettering and devices. Volume III contains: Nicholas Nickleby, Christmas Books, A Tale of Two Cities, and Dombey and Sons; some pencilled notes/checks to Contents page, text of novels appears clean, splitting of endpaper in front gutter, revealing the webbing, with resultant wobble to the board, and the first three endpapers, with the title page, are detached and laid in; gilt devices and lettering to the spine quite faded, with wear and fraying at all extremities of the boards. Volume IV contains: Old Curiosity Shop, Sketches by Boz, Hard Times, A Menage from the Sea, Master Humphrey's Clock, and Miscellaneous. A few penned notes to Contents page, and some underlining to one paragrapgh of p. 685 of The Old Curiosity Shop; else apparently unmarked. Binding is solid, with moderate wear at the extremities, bright gilt devices and lettering. Volume V contains The Pickwick Papers, Pictures from Italy, American Notes, and Bleak House. Some notes in pen to title and Contents pages; else unmarked; splitting of front gutter with resultant wobble to the board; fading to gilt devices and lettering of the spine, though the front board remains attractive, with moderate wear and fraying at the extremities. Volume VI contains:The Uncommercial Traveller, A Child's History of England, Barnaby Rudge, Miscellaneous, and The Mystery of Edwin Droud. Text is unmarked, binding solid, with gilt devices and lettering bright and fresh in appearance. Volume I, II, IV, and VI are similarly bound, with front board lettering: The Works of Charles Dickens / Unabridged Edition. Volumes III and V are similarly bound, with Dickens' Works lettering to front board, and depictions of various characters: Pickwick, Bill Sykes, Little Nell, Sidney Carton, and Fagin, and these two volumes are approximately one-quarter inch taller. Thus, a mis-matched set. [Please note: Due to the size and weight of the volume extra shipping may be required depending on the destination and speed of delivery requested. Quotations gladly provided. Additional scans available on request. ].
