A propos de cet article

NEW First Trade Paperback Edition (Orig. 1993) First Printing: NEW handsomely-illustrated gloss-laminated full-color cover, NEW uncreased perfect binding, PRISITNE interior handsomely presented on EXCELLENT unblemished archival paper * 5.86" x 8.78" x 1.16", 0.66 kg, xxx+396 (426) pp * ABOUT THE BOOK: Blaise Cendrars was a pioneer of modernist literature. The full range of his poetry―from classical rhymed alexandrines to "cubist" modernism, & from feverish, even visionary, depression to airy good humor―offers a challenge no translator accepted until Ron Padgett's brilliant work which made available for the first time in English translation the complete poetry of this legendary 20th-century French writer. * ABOUT THE POET: Novelist, poet & essayist, BLAISE CENDRARS (1887-1961) was also a cineaste, juggler, translator, & adventurer. CENDRARS, born Frederick Louis Sauser in 1887, invented his life as well as his art. His adventures took him to Russia during the revolution of 1905 (where he traveled on the Trans-Siberian Railway), to New York in 1911, to the trenches of World War I (where he lost his right arm), to Brazil in the 1920s, to Hollywood in the 1930s, & back & forth across Europe. W/ Guillaume Apollinaire & Max Jacob he was a pioneer of modernist literature, working alongside artist friends such as Chagall, Delaunay, Modigliani, & Léger, composers Eric Satie & Darius Milhaud, & filmmaker Abel Gance. The range of Cendrars's poetry (from classical rhymed alexandrines to "cubist" modernism, from feverish, even visionary, depression to airy good humor) offers a challenge no translator accepted until Mr. Padgett. *ABOUT THE TRANSLATOR: In addition to his brilliant translation of Cendrars, RON PADGETT has also translated works of Apollinaire & Duchamp. JAY BOCHNER (the introduction) is Professor of English Literature at the University of Montreal. * SHIPPING: MNEMOSYNE carefully wraps, labels & custom-packages this fine book for FREE domestic shipment via USPS MEDIA MAIL or USPS PRIORITY MAIL for a nominal additional fee & via efficient USPS FIRST CLASS MAIL to all international shipments at our posted rates.…
