(11.5 x 10 in.). 86 pp. w/ graduated thumb tabs at outer right fore-edge, in 3-ring binder as issued, 8 large double-page folding leaves w/ 66 vinyl & cloth upholstery and interior trim samples tipped-in, 8 leaves w/ 16 colour chip samples tipped-in, w/ colour plate of Avanti; [196 pp (unpaginated)], 100s of text illustrations, photo illustrations, advertising mock-ups, diagrams, many leaves w/ large fold-outs. Gold-coloured ring binder, clear plastic padded vinyl front cover, blue lettering on front cover, rounded corners (tide mark throughout textblock to lower margin, minor soiling, some rippling to leaves), still a G- copy. First edition of these two scarce Dealer's showroom sample catalogues for the 1963 Studebaker passenger cars, with the exceedingly scarce Dealer promotional catalogue, advertising campaign, clip art, poster art, and confidential fleet dealer lists. The 1963 Studebaker models included the Lark Regal 2-door and 4-door, Lark Daytona hardtop which could be outfitted as a Super Lark with Andy Granatelli engines, the famed Brook Stevens Gran Turismo Hawk, and others. This catalogue also includes information on the Studebaker fleet models including their taxicab and police cars. The 1963 Studebaker models represented some of the new designs by Brook Stevens, the renowned Milwaukee-based industrial designer who with a shoestring budget refreshed all the Studebaker models. Unfortunately even though the Studebaker promoted their new supercharged engine, and they were very impressive at the Bonneville Salt Flat speed trials, most of the Studebaker dealers really didn't understand the new sporty performance and hot engines, so the sales were very poor. The Avanti was a groundbreaking car design, developed under the supervision of Sherwood Egbert, the carmaker's president, and executed by Raymond Loewy's team of Tom Kellogg, Bob Andrews, and John Ebstein in 40 days. The car featured a radical fiberglass body mounted on a modified 109-inch Studebaker Lark Daytona chassis, with a souped-up 289 Hawk engine. It was fitted with disc brakes, and a Paxton supercharger was offered as an option. Even after the shuttering of the U.S. factory in December, 1963, and then eventually in Canada in 1966, the Avanti name, tooling, and plant space were sold to two Studebaker dealers, Nate Altman and Leo Newman who along with a succession of entrepreneurs produced Avanti replica and new design cars through 2006. This dealer promotional supplement includes an excellent section on the Studebaker Trucks for 1964, their new canopies, as well as their heavy diesel trucks.
