Octavo, 20 x 14 cm each A smart set with largely clean boards apart from occasional light scuffs or marks, bright gilt, bumping to the tops and tails of spines and corners. Some foxing, particularly at the margins, textblock edges, and preliminary pages. Many volumes with some leaves uncut, three with all signatures uncut, a few volumes with some rather messy cuts resulting in tears to the margins. A Tale of Two Cities has a few signatures coming loose towards the rear of the volume, Dombey and Son is missing pp. 279 - 282 with a small 2cm high square stuck to the illustration on the preceding page and torn away and Oliver Twist has a former owner's name to the preliminary pages. Pages and plates otherwise clean across the set, overall good, near very good condition.
