Handsomely bound in early Victorian full hard grain purple morocco, sides richly decorated in gilt with portrait of Shakespeare to centre of each, spines with raised bands and gilt-decorated compartments, gilt inner dentelles, all edges gilt. Text in two columns. With an engraved portrait of the author from the Chandos Picture, engraved by Cochran, and forty engraved plates after Smirke, Westall, Corbould, Stephanoff, and Wright. Old ownership inscription to flyleaf. Spines faded, some light general shelfwear, some light toning and occasional light foxing to contents, withal a very good set in attractive leather bindings.
