A propos de cet article

Oversized cloth hardcover, reprint, xiv + 367 pages, numerous b&w figures in text, NOT ex-library. Weight 1kg. Owner's first name on the front endpaper. Yellow age-staining on outer page edges, also showing in the margins of some pages; minor age-discolourations on the endpapers. Else contents are clean and bright with unmarked text, free of stamps, firmly bound. Untorn dust jacket with creases on the front flap, gentle creases along the edges, a touch of sunning on the spine, faint marks on the inner panels. -- First published in 1983, this volume remains the most widely used textbook on craniosacral therapy and is considered the foundational reference for the field. It provides a detailed account of the anatomy and physiology of the craniosacral system - the membranes, cerebrospinal fluid and connective tissues that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord - and examines how restrictions within this system may relate to a range of health problems. A substantial portion of the book is devoted to developing palpatory skills. Practitioners are guided through techniques for detecting the craniosacral rhythm, a subtle cyclical movement said to occur at a rate of roughly five to ten cycles per minute, and for identifying restrictions in fasciae and membranes that may affect central nervous system performance. The approach uses extremely light touch - approximately five grams of pressure - and is presented as a complement to other forms of manual therapy and physical diagnosis rather than a replacement for them. The text draws on research conducted during the authors' work at Michigan State University, where clinical studies explored the measurability of craniosacral motion and its relationship to various health, behavioural and performance problems. It should be noted that craniosacral therapy remains a subject of debate within the wider medical community, with proponents citing positive patient outcomes and critics questioning the strength of the evidence base. This book allows readers to engage directly with the original clinical reasoning and research summaries that underpin the practice. The volume is both a teaching text for students entering the field and a reference work for experienced practitioners seeking to deepen their understanding of the theoretical and anatomical foundations of craniosacral work.…
